Excerpt: Alzheimer’s and Memory Care: Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible disease of the brain. It causes a decline in mental functioning, as well as the ability to perform routine tasks. For example, a person with Alzheimer’s disease may have difficulty finding the right words to express a thought or feeling, or may forget how to get home from the grocery store. As the disease progresses, a person will start forgetting how to make a meal or clean a house. Eventually, he/she will likely forget how to dress, feed and toilet him or herself.
